Deadline reports that Fox has picked up a pilot presentation for an animated show called Lil Kev—a series based on Hart’s childhood. Written by Michael Price (The Simpsons) and Matt Claybrooks (Everybody Hates Chris), Lil Kev will feature voice work from Hart as well as Wanda Sykes, Keith Robertson, Gerald Johnson, and Deon Cole.

According to Deadline, the show’s premise revolves around “the story of a 12-year-old, pint-sized, optimistic, highly imaginative kid who navigates growing up in the crime-filled inner-city of North Philly.” The series will also include appearances from “his strong, quick-tempered mother, drug-addicted father, pessimistic older brother, ex-con uncle, and wise-ass talking dog.”

Hart has previously lent his voice to animated films like The Secret Life of Pets and Captain Underpants: The First Epic Movie, but this will be the first animated project centred around his own life. Fox’s new entertainment president, Michael Thorn, gave his own rundown of the show’s plotline: “It’s About Kevin Hart’s experiences growing up and how his relationship with his mother and his community led to his optimistic, positive outlook despite some of the challenges and circumstances that he grew up with.”

Thorn explained that Lil Kev was made a priority because of Fox’s desire to add new animated programming. “I really want a new animated series, that’s a huge priority,” he said. “It’s a such a strong part of our brand. I think what many people think of Fox is they think of our animated shows, and it would be great to add another original animated series to go with the three series we have on right now: The Simpsons, Family Guy, and Bob’s Burgers.”

Sounds like Hart is staying busy. This news comes hours after it was announced that there’s another Jumanji sequel in development. Jumanji: Welcome To The Jungle—which stars Hart, Dwayne Johnson, Jack Black, and Karen Gillan—has grossed a staggering $857 million.
