Ben Affleck Won’t Be In Next Batman Movie

It’s Looking Like Ben Affleck Won’t Reprise His Role as Batman.

Ben Affleck most likely won’t be starring in the latest Batman film thanks to a little change in the timeline of the movie.

Writer-director Matt Reeves will center the next Batman film on a younger version of the Caped Crusader, TheWrap confirmed on Wednesday. Warner Bros. has not yet commented on whether or not Affleck has officially been stripped of the Batman title but it is not likely the actor will be able to pull off playing a young version of the superhero.

During Memorial Day Weekend, Reeves turned in the first act of the newest Batman film after working on a new treatment for about a year, according to the Hollywood Reporter. Reeves had previously stated that he put aside a script that Affleck and former DC entertainment president Geoff Johns wrote and will be starting over. “No. It’s a new story. It’s just starting again. I’m excited about it. I think it’s going to be really cool,” Reeves said to MTV’s Happy Sad Confused podcast last summer.

Jake Gyllenhaal already confirmed that he would not play Batman, but with the new detail on the superhero’s age, he would not have been a likely candidate anyways.

The latest Batman news came just days after DC Entertainment announced that Diane Nelson would exit as DC Entertainment consumer products group president. On Monday, it was also announced that Johns stepped down as president and chief creative officer of DC Entertainment. One source told TheWrap that these moves are just a small part of what will be a larger shakeup for the studio.
